GALESBURG — On Sunday, Galesburg remembered. One-hundred years ago, Nov. 11, 1918, the fighting of World War I ended as an armistice was reached between Germany and the Allies. Ever since, the day has been a day of honor and remembrance for American veterans. Since 1918, the United States joined World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War and has conducted wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The World War I generation has passed on and most of the veterans of World War II and Korea have as well.
